Oregon PeaceWorks-Give Peace a Dance
Oregon PeaceWorks’ annual fundraiser Give Peace a Dance is celebrating its 28th year! Known as the best peace party in Oregon, the event features superb entertainment, delicious food, silent and oral auctions and a no-host bar, all couched in a Mardi Gras theme. Revelers will find the event at Salem’s Grand Ballroom, 187 High St. NE, from 6-11 p.m. on February 18th.
This year the Ty Curtis Band will headline Give Peace a Dance’s entertainment. Ty Curtis, a 24-year-old blues sensation, is a popular Salem musician boasting three critically acclaimed albums. The band earned 2nd place in the prestigious 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and is nightly thrilling audiences from the Pacific Northwest to Montreal. His latest release can be sampled on his webpage at http://www.tycurtisband.com/.
The event will begin with socializing around finger foods and beverages at 6 p.m. Be sure to grab one of Full Sail's Amber Ale, LTD 04, IPA or Session Premium Lager at this event! At 7, Dr. Atomic’s Medicine Show will present hilarious political satire in the form of humorous skits and original songs. This funfest will be followed by a short oral auction featuring quality donated items and exciting services. Throughout the evening, a silent auction will offer additional goods and services with something for everyone. The band will rock the ballroom from 9 until 11.
According to event coordinator Kerry Topel, Give Peace a Dance will be a completely waste-free event at which all refuse is either recycled or composted.
Tickets are $15.00 in advance or $18.00 at the door. There is also a "Mardi Party" rate for groups of friends who want to attend together: buy 5 tickets for $75.00 and receive the 6th free. Tickets can be purchased by phone or securely online at 503-585-2767 or www.oregonpeaceworks.org.
