July 8 - 3 Leg Torso
Influenced by tango, Eastern European folk and other world music traditions, 3 Leg Torso boasts a cosmopolitan sound of arresting and uncommon beauty — famously presented with wit, humor and rock star high energy. Béla R. Balogh (violin), Courtney Von Drehle (accordion), T.J. Arko (percussion/drums), Gary Irvine (percussion/drums), Mike Murphy (upright bass).
July 15 - Sara Gazarek
Blessed with a gorgeous, translucent voice and a supple sense of time, artist Sara Gazarek is a jazz star on the rise, championed by jazz leaders and adored by listeners. Gazarek deftly blends old with new, seamlessly combining the intimacy of singer/songwriter stylings with the musical and improvisational elements of jazz. A rare Northwest performance for this international touring artist. With Josh Nelson (piano), Hamilton Price (bass) and Zach Harmon (drums).
July 22 - The Midnight Serenaders
Like the small groups of the 1920s and ‘thirties who inspire them, this retro hot swing sextet rides giddily along on a current of Hawaiian-flavored steel guitar and ukulele, with plenty of sizzling clarinet, muted trumpet and a flirtatious pair of lead singers leading the way. Yowza! Dee Settlemeier (ukulele/vocals), Doug Sammons (guitar/vocals), David Evans (clarinet/saxophone), Doc Stein (Hawaiian steel guitar), Garner Pruitt (trumpet/vocals), Pete Lampe (bass). Learn more on their website.
July 29 - The Delines
With the intimacy of a midnight confessional, The Delines evoke the skid row heart of Tom Waits and the street tough weariness of early Rickie Lee Jones in the dreamy, heartbreaking voice of Austin singer Amy Boone (The Damnations). The neo-country band is the brainchild of Willy Vlautin, frontman to alt-country band Richmond Fontaine, The Delines boasts a who’s who of Portland alt-music artists including Jenny Conlee-Drizos (The Decemberists), Tucker Jackson (The Minus 5), Sean Oldham and Freddie Trujillo.
August 5 - Portland Cello Project with Patti King
The genre-blurring cello force is at it again, this time blending classical, jazz and rock with their Bach, Brubeck and Beck repertoire featuring guest singer Patti King of Radiation City. Since 2007, the Portland Cello Project has entranced audiences across the nation from Prairie Home Companion to sketchy punk rock clubs and elite concert halls. Musically creative, intriguing and always an adventure!
